Playing ahead of the remote work policies that the Coronavirus has forced to be revised, Estonia has decided to launch a Digital Nomad Visa, a visa that will allow online workers to live and work in the Baltic country even if their employer or company is registered abroad. Starting this summer (no exact date yet, rumours say July 15), it will be possible to apply for the visa that will allow people from outside Schengen to get out of that 'ambiguous' zone in which those who decide to work by travelling often find themselves.

Estonia is the leader among the states that have decided to find a way out of this undefined situation to encourage independent workers to stay and live in the beautiful Tallinn and surrounding areas. The permit guarantees the possibility to stay for one year. Still, since Estonia is inside Schengen, it also offers the opportunity to travel to the other member countries of the Union for 90 days.

The Baltic country has long been in pole position among the nations most focused on opening their policies to the digital world and innovation the most. It is, for example, the country that for a few years now has allowed people to obtain an e-residency, which is a residency that helps digital entrepreneurs to open and manage a company within the European Union online, having access to all the services that the Estonian state provides for businesses on the web.
